What is Stomach Botox?

Stomach Botox is a method of obesity treatment which has been used for 10-15 years. It is performed endoscopically. It aims to temporarily passivate the nerves and muscles that affect the appetite and hunger of the stomach. After this procedure, which takes approximately 15-20 minutes, the muscles that is responsible of the appetite and hunger of the stomach relax, digestion slows down and this makes the patient feel more satiated for a longer period of time. So patients need to eat less and as a result of this they lose weight.

Normally processing of carbohydrates by the stomach takes 2-4 hours. This period increases up to 12 hours after the stomach botox.

Process of Stomach Botox Procedure

Stomach Botox is performed by gastroscopy, which is an endoscopic method. Gastroscopy is a method used in the examination of the esophagus-stomach-duodena. Botulinum Toxin (botox) is injected into spesific areas of the stomach with this method.

Botox is injected for the purpose of limiting the contractions of the stomach muscles. Muscles, in which reduced contractions, slow down the digestion process, and this leads to a longer period of feeling of satiety. The procedure is completed in a short period like 15-30 minutes.

After the procedure, the patient is discharged after keeping under observation for 1-2 hours. Patient can return to his/her daily life immediately.

What Should Expectations be from the Procedure?

It was observed that effect of the procedure to the appetite started after the 2nd day. It is expected to people lose 10% -15% weight in about 4-6 months with regular nutrition and appropriate diet program.
